Don't Force It; You'll break it

Ah, childhood memories. They’re a mixed bag of innocence, exploration, and lessons learned the hard way. One vivid memory of mine involves a colorful block set that seemed like the ultimate test of my intellect (or at least my patience). Picture me as a tiny human, determined to fit a triangle block into a square peg. My little hands were going for it—pushing, shoving, and yes, getting increasingly frustrated. Enter my dad, who leans in and whispers with the wisdom of a seasoned sage: “If you force it, you’re going to break it.”
Back then, I thought he was just trying to save me from a broken toy. Little did I know, he was dropping some serious life wisdom that would stick with me well into adulthood.
Understanding Resistance
Life is a bit like that block set, isn’t it? We often find ourselves trying to jam our ideas, relationships, or career aspirations into spaces they just don’t fit. Whether it’s persuading a family member to understand your point of view or trying to force a relationship that’s clearly gone south, resistance is everywhere.
And here’s the kicker: sometimes, when we encounter resistance, we think we need to double down and push harder. But let’s be real—forcing things can lead to breakage. Not just of toys, but of dreams, relationships, and even our sanity.
The Universe’s Way of Protecting Us
Here’s a thought: what if that resistance is the universe’s way of protecting us? Like a cosmic bouncer saying, “Nope, not tonight, buddy. You can’t come in.” Maybe the universe is nudging us toward something better.
Think about it—how many times have you desperately wanted something, only to realize later that not getting it was a blessing in disguise? Maybe that job you were set on was actually a dead-end, or that relationship was destined to go nowhere fast. Sometimes, what feels like a roadblock is just the universe’s way of redirecting us to a better path.
Patience and Temperance
Now, let’s talk about patience—something I’ve learned is harder than it sounds. In a world of instant everything (thank you, Wi-Fi), waiting can feel like an eternity. But here’s the secret: patience doesn’t mean being passive. It’s more about trusting that the right opportunities will come knocking when the time is right.
Remember my triangle and square dilemma? Instead of forcing the issue, I could’ve taken a step back, laughed at my mini tantrum, and realized that maybe there’s another door waiting to be opened.
The Right Things Will Show Up
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where everything just clicked? Like, “Wow, this was meant to happen”? Those moments often come after a period of discomfort or resistance. By trusting that things will unfold as they should, we open ourselves up to new possibilities.
I mean, how many times have you been frustrated because something didn’t go your way, only to discover later that something way better was right around the corner? It’s like the universe has a knack for surprises, and not the kind that come in a poorly wrapped gift.
Embracing the Journey
Sitting with discomfort is more than just a test of patience; it’s also a journey of self-discovery. It forces us to confront our fears and the “what-ifs” that lurk in the corners of our minds. Each moment of resistance is like an invitation to dig deeper. What’s really driving us? What fears are we clinging to?
Being introspective doesn’t have to be heavy, though. It can be like tending to a garden—carefully nurturing your thoughts and emotions while discovering unexpected blooms. Just take your time and see what grows!
Finding Strength in Vulnerability
Let’s not forget about vulnerability. I know, I know—it sounds scary. But guess what? Sitting in discomfort often means being honest with ourselves and others. Sharing our struggles can create a sense of connection that’s invaluable.
When we show our true selves—messy and all—we invite others to do the same. It’s like forming a little support group where we all cheer each other on, minus the matching T-shirts (unless that’s your thing, then go for it!).
Don't Force It; You'll break it
So, the next time you’re tempted to cram a triangle into a square, keep my dad’s words in mind: “Don’t force it; you’ll break it.” It’s a simple but powerful reminder that not everything is meant to fit, and sometimes trying too hard can lead to unnecessary frustration.
Instead of forcing things, let’s embrace the bumps in the road. Life has its own rhythm, and resisting it can often lead us away from what we truly need. Allowing ourselves to be patient can reveal better opportunities we might not see right now.
So, take a deep breath, relax, and trust that things will unfold as they should. Sometimes, the best outcomes come when we stop trying to control everything and let life do its thing.
